Lynda Coffin - Flute

Lynda Coffin studied flute with Geoffrey Gilbert at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and also with celebrated flautist Marcel Moyse. Her first professional position was Principal Flute with the Ulster Orchestra. On her return to England, she became Principal Flute with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; with whom she made many highly acclaimed recordings, featuring French orchestral flute solos.
On moving to London, Lynda Coffin joined the Nash Ensemble and shortly thereafter became Principal Flute of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She has since performed and recorded as guest principal with virtually all of the London orchestras performing as soloist with many of them. She is currently Principal Flute of the London Concert Orchestra and the Mozart Festival Orchestra.
Solo and chamber music performances have involved further recording work, radio and television appearances and duo flute recitals with James Galway for the BBC.
Recent collaborations include chamber music recitals with Raphael Wallfisch and family, the Doric string quartet and the Rasumovsky string quartet.
Recording session work has included the solo flute part for the film Emma, the sound track of which was awarded an Oscar.
Lynda is a professor of flute at Trinity College of Music. She enjoys coaching young professional players, tutoring chamber music and giving flute master classes at Dartington International Summer School.
